7 Strategies for Moving Forward After the Loss of a Loved One

It's okay to feel sad, angry, or overwhelmed.

Grief is a normal, healthy response to the loss of a loved one, and it's important to take your time, listen to yourself, and practice self-care in order to heal. Surrounding yourself with supportive people and seeking out resources such as counselors and support groups can also help. Above all else, remember that it's okay to be vulnerable and give yourself permission to grieve.

  • Acknowledge that grief is a personal experience and cope with it in whatever way you find best.
  • Seek out support however possible, either through talking to friends and family or professional counseling services.
  • Allow yourself time and space to process your emotions.
  • Take care of yourself physically, through activities such as yoga or meditation, getting plenty of rest, or eating well.
  • Move forward with new outlooks, such as volunteering or taking up new hobbies.
  • Find activities that allow you to honor your departed loved one.
  • Seek out resources such as books or websites for advice and guidance related to grief.
